Frequently Asked Questions
For General Playing rules refer to Bylaws for players age division.
Q. How long does the season run and when does it end?
A. The season usually begins with tryouts and practices in March and ends by the second week in June. Teams play 2-3 games per week. Schedules are published in March
Q. I don’t know if I can be a team mom because I can’t score-keep.
A. Team mom’s are not required to be the team scorekeeper but may be asked by the team manager to help arrange for scorekeepers. The league provides training for scorekeepers at the team mom meeting held before each season.
Q. Will Babe Ruth uniforms have names on the back?
A. The league does not provide names for Babe Ruth uniforms. Each team is more than welcome to arrange for their names to be put on the shirts if they desire to do so.
Q. My child is capable of playing at a higher level will he be allowed to move up?
A. Generally, yes, but it is up to the coach to draft your child if they see that they are able to compete at that level and if there is room. Players that are supposed to play in a particular age group are given priority over a player who wants to move up. A waiver form must be signed by the parent and the league president to move the player up. Players MAY NOT play in a younger age group or “move down” as per Babe Ruth guidelines/insurance.
Q. Do Tee Ball and Rookies players (Ages 3-6) need to tryout?
A. NO! They will be assigned to a team, and the coach will contact them prior to the season starting.
Q. My child wants to play with his friends is that okay?
A When you sign up your child they must sign up with their friends and if there are more than 4 who want to play together a coach MUST be provided. (This applies only to T-Ball and Rookie ages)
Q. When do games start?
A. Games usually start at the end of March or first week of April
Q. When do practices start?
A. We encourage our coaches to begin practicing the following tryouts & the draft
Q. When are tryouts?
A. Tryouts are in March following registration. The dates and times can be found on the league website.
Q. My player was on a team in the Minors (Majors, Pee Wee, Babe Ruth) last year, and is still in the Minors (Majors, Pee Wee, Babe Ruth) this year. Do they need to tryout?
A. If your player is RETURNING to an age division they DO NOT tryout.
Q. What is the fundraiser?
A. In Cal Ripken divisions we hold a hit-a-thon each season and ask that all players participate. In Babe Ruth each player receives 3 pizza cards as part of their registration that we encourage them to sell. Additionally all players, coaches, and parents are encouraged to participate in our Home Run Derby. We also have sponsorship opportunities for businesses to participate in.
Q. What does the fundraiser cover?
A. The fundraiser is used to offset the cost of registration fees. The league cannot operate on the registration fees alone. The equipment costs, pitching machines, and field improvements cost far more than the fees cover. It is imperative to the success of Riverton Baseball League that all players participate in the fundraiser.
Q. I coached a team last year will I be able to coach the same team again?
A. Generally the same coach will have the team for two years based on Board approval. A coaches application must be turned into the baseball board during one of the two scheduled registration dates
Q. My player wants to play with his cousin/friend (applies to Pee Wee and older) can they play together?
A. Only if the coach drafts both players together.
